Ethnic policy led by the autocracy, and non-indigenous ethnic groups in the Baikal region (late ƠIƠth — early ƠƠth cc.)

The article is devoted to a policy led by the autocracy regarding non-indigenous ethnic groups in the Baikal region covering territories of modern Irkutsk Oblast, Republic of Buryatia and Transbaikal region (Irkutsk gubernija and Transbaikal Oblast, during the investigated period) compared with general imperial ethnic policy. Basing on the facts, it is shown that, despite a particular administrative status of the region as the area of penal servitude and exile, the ethnic policy here was led in a more reserved manner than in the west gubernijas of the Empire, subject to consideration being reasons of this phenomenon.

Development features of ethnic and socio-economic processes down stream the Yenisei in the ƠƠth — early XXIst cc.

The article is devoted to development problems of ethnic and socioeconomic processes down stream the Yenisei in the XXth — early XXIst cc. By an example of one of the local Nenets groups dwelling by the Yenisei tributaries, the Solyonaya and the Bolshaya and Malaya Kheta rivers, subject to presentation being the results of ethnic interaction between Nenets and Aenets, with the latter borrowing the Nenets language, clothing, and me-
thods of running reindeer household. Special attention being paid to the industrial development of the region impacting on the preservation of traditional types of economic activity led by the natives.

Symbolism of the basic colour triad after the trinominal division of the universe in the Khanty culture

In this article the author undertakes an attempt to systematize data on symbolism of three basic colours (white, red, black) in the Khanty culture, specifying their basic semantic interpretation. The article is based on ethnographic sources, together with the works by the researchers in  this or related  themes, as well as personal field materials by the author.

Life in the atheistic state: Moslem communities in Tyumen Oblast (1940s–1960s)

The article is devoted to describing life of a Moslem community in Tyumen Oblast in the 1940s–1960s, quo-ting data on the opening and closing mosques, as well as on the number of Moslems in Tyumen Oblast. Subject to consideration being the activity of the Islamic spiritual leaders. The author tells about methods of atheistic propaganda regarding Moslems.

Position of a woman in Siberian Tartars’ family in the XIXth — early XXth c.

The article is devoted to a little-studied question regarding position of a woman in Siberian Tartars’ family in the XIXth — early XXth c. Basing on archive and narrative sources, subject to consideration being such aspects of family and conjugal relations with Siberian Tartars as contracting a marriage, polygamy, mutual family relations, and divorce. The author comes to the conclusion that despite patriarchal foundations, the rights of a Siberian Tartar woman during the studied period were broadened: her opinion influenced contracting a marriage or divorce, she also possessed property independence and could, in case of divorce, contract another marriage, ha-ving the right to bring up her children.
